EQ Access Event Check-In App
I was tasked with designing an event check-in app that can scan a ticket’s QR code and manage attendees.
PROJECT GOALS
Streamline the Check-In Process: Reduce wait times and improve the efficiency of the check-in process for attendees.
Enhance Security: Implement real-time ticket verification to prevent fraud and duplicate ticket scanning.
Improve Attendee Management: Provide event organizers with simple but detailed attendee management tools.
Ensure Accessibility: Design an app that is easy to use for event staff regardless of their technical expertise.
RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY
The design process began with extensive user research to understand the needs and pain points of the target audience, including event organizers, staff, and attendees. Methods used included:
Interviews and Surveys: Conducted with event organizers and staff to identify common challenges and desired features in the check-in process.
Observation: Attended live events to observe current check-in processes and identify areas for improvement.
Competitive Analysis: Analyzed existing check-in solutions to identify strengths and weaknesses.
KEY FINDINGS
Long Wait Times: Attendees often experienced long wait times at check-in, leading to frustration.
Complex Systems: Existing check-in systems were often complex and required extensive training for staff.
Fraud Concerns: Organizers were concerned about ticket fraud and wanted a more secure solution.
Data Overload: Organizers needed better tools for managing and analyzing attendee data.
WIREFRAMING AND PROTOTYPING
Based on the research findings, the design team created wireframes and prototypes to visualize the app’s interface and user flow. Key considerations included:
Simplicity and Clarity: The interface was designed to be clean and intuitive, with a focus on easy navigation and clear instructions.
Efficient User Flow: The check-in process was streamlined to minimize steps and reduce wait times. This included optimizing the QR code scanning speed and accuracy.
Accessibility Features: Ensured the app was accessible to users with disabilities by incorporating features such as voice commands and adjustable text sizes.
